Welcome to Hive, where the freakishly fascinating and the fascinatingly freakish come each Sunday evening for a night of dancing, drinking, and debauchery. The music of Hive continually intoxicates, infuriates, and satiates the darkest dreamer. There is simply nothing else like it in the Northwest.
Hive takes place every Sunday night at Plan B from 9 PM to 2:00 AM and is free, 21 and over with ID at all times. Although there is no dress code, Hive is a Gothic/Industrial night in the truest sense.
Plan B is located at 1305 SE 8th Ave, on the corner of SE Main St in Portland, Oregon. Hive is a unique indoor/outdoor experience. With two DJs playing their respective areas at once - Owen provides the Gothic, Deathrock, Ethereal, Darkwave, New Romantic, Electro-Fetish, Steampunk, and Apocalyptic Folk, while Brian Backlash metes out Industrial, EBM, Aggrotech, Cold Wave and Industrial Metal - everyone gets exactly what they like best. The inside club is dressed in shards of red and black with plenty of comfortable seating. The outside is covered with an open air side so when you desire some fresh air or quiet conversation you can come hang out and relax under the stars. When the music catches your ear you will be treated to dancing in exceptional lights and sound. As smoking is illegal inside bars, Hive is the only night in the Portland scene where one can drink, dance, and smoke at the same time. As the club is owned and operated by punks, I don't have to tell you how strong and cheap the drinks are.
It's the music that makes Hive so special. Resident DJs Owen and Brian Backlash consistently bring the only genuine Gothic/Industrial night in Portland. Of course you will hear VNV Nation and Covenant, but Hive is the only place in the state where you will also hear The Virgin Prunes and Christian Death, The Sisters Of Mercy and Chameleons, Thrill Kill Kult and Front 242, The Cramps and Necromantix, The Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance, Hex Rx and Stromkern, Visage and Bryan Ferry, Curve and The Jesus & Mary Chain, Combichrist and Tactical Sekt, Coil and The Legendary Pink Dots, Big Black and Cop Shoot Cop, Qntal and Die Form, Revolting Cocks and KMFDM, Collide and Siderartica, Cabaret Voltaire and Wire, Portishead and Massive Attack, Duran Duran and Kate Bush, and naturally Bauhaus, Einstuerzende Neubauten, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Joy Division, Nitzer Ebb, Siouxsie, Nick Cave, and on and on. What's more, Hive's friendly DJs are always open to taking requests and will actually play them if they say they will. The selection of music is so broad that it tends to bring in people from all over the spectrum making Hive the place to meet a truly wide variety of people from within the community.
